Study in Japan Fair for Zambia took place at UNZA
On 12 May 2023, a Study in Japan Fair for Zambia took place at the University of Zambia (UNZA). The fair was co-organised by the Hokkaido University Africa Office in Lusaka and the Embassy of Japan to the Republic of Zambia.
The fair opened with a welcome remark by Dr Michale Mulenga, the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UNZA, followed by an opening remark by H.E. Mr Kazuyuki Takeuchi, Ambassador of Japan, and an introductory remark by Professor Masahiro Okumura, the Director of Hokkaido University Africa Office in Lusaka. Hokkaido University Africa Office provided the presentation on the general informatoin on studying in Japan, and a representative of the Embassy of Japan presented on the MEXT scholarship, whose application is currently open. Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) also talked about post-doctoral scholarships.
There were four Japanese universities participated in the fair - Hokkaido University, Nagasaki University, Soka University and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. Each of them provided a presentation on its school and programmes. A representative of the University of Zambia also presented about exchange programmes that UNZA has with its partner schools. There was a panel discussion by four former students who studied in Japan, who shared their experience in school and scholarship applications, exchange programmes, internship and part-time jobs, learning Japanese and living in Japan. There was a lively Q&A session too.
A Consultation Session took place in the afternoon, where participants visited booths of different participating organisations and universities to learn more about their programmes and scholarships and to directly consult with the representatives.
