(11 February 2023)
On 11 February 2023, a Study in Japan Fair for Senegal 2023 took place at the African Centre for Higher Studies in Management (CESAG). The total of 333 participants joined the fair.
The fair was divided into two sessions - the General Information session and the University Consultation sessoin. The General Information session was opened by the welcome remarks by Professor Bertin Chabi, Director of Research and Development of CESAG and the opening remarks by H.E. Mr Osamu Izawa, Ambassador of Japan to Senegal. It was followed by a series of important and informative presentations including the overview of studying in Japan by Hokkaido University, presentations on different scholarships by the Embassy of Japan, JICA, and Ashinaga Foundation, introduction to Japanese universities by Tohoku University and Hokkaido University, and the information on post-doctoral fellowships by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). In the latter half of the General Information session, there was a panel discussion by four former Senegalese students who studied in Japan with the support of MEXT scholarship, where they shared their experience in school and scholarship applications, living in Japan, and finding jobs after graduation. There was also a lively Q and A session.
In the University Consultation sessoin, the participants had opportunities to consult directly with the representatives of different universities and organisations that have scholarships and funding schemes, as well as former MEXT students who studied and took degrees in Japan.
The fair was followed by the Japan Day organised by the Japanese Club of CESAG, where everyone enjoyed the demonstrations of Japanese culture and martial arts.
